Woods & Wildlife Field Day – 2022

The Woods and Wildlife Field Day this year will include topics focusing on current research and forest stewardship practices that will help landowners with forest management goals. The in-person event is scheduled for October 20, 2022 at the Cumberland Forest Unit of the Forest Resources AgResearch and Education Center. Several Field Stop tours and a joint Nature Conservancy Program update are included. On-site registration begins at 7:30am (EDT). An introduction to the field day will begin at 8 a.m. The sessions will conclude by 2:00 p.m.

This year’s topics include:

  • Considerations in Developing Desirable Hardwood Regeneration
  • Red Maple Seedling Response to Prescribed Fire
  • Mixed Species Hardwood Stand Development
  • The Intersection of Trees and Entomology: A Multilayered Look at the Little Seen World of Bugs in the Woods
  • Drone Technology Applications in Forestry
  • The Working Woodlands Program, and New Family Forest Carbon Program, a partnership with the Nature Conservancy
  • UT Tree Improvements Ongoing Contributions: Genetic Preservation of Quality Eastern Hemlock
