Other Events

In addition to our field days, a variety of other exciting events take place throughout the year at the Forest Resources AgResearch and Education Center. Many of these occur in conjunction with our UT Arboretum.

The University of Tennessee Arboretum Society’s 9th Annual Butterfly Festival will be held on Saturday, September 28th, 2024.

The UT Arboretum Society Butterfly Festival is a cooperative educational endeavor to provide opportunities for the public to learn from the UT Insect Zoo, two butterfly tents, lectures, and children’s art activities explaining ways we can protect our pollinators.

Please note: There is no mass butterfly release at this year’s festival.

A TRIBUTE TO LYNNE MCCOY, WILDLIFE CAREGIVER EXTRAORDINAIRE

Thursday, March 7 at 7pm EST on ZOOM

The program is free but registration is required to receive the Zoom link and recording.

In honor of International Women’s Day, the University of Tennessee Arboretum Society will pay tribute during our March First Thursday Nature Supper Club to an East Tennessee woman who provided rehabilitation to local injured and orphaned wildlife. During her 49 years of caregiving, the late Lynne McCoy took over 17,000 animals into her home: hawks, opossums, owls, squirrels, finches, cardinals, snakes, ducks, groundhogs, cranes, turtles, vultures, whatever needed her help.  She was state and federally permitted to care for all that required safe shelter until they were able to be released back into the wild.

We are happy to offer our Third Saturday Hike! Meet at the kiosk by the UT Arboretum Visitors Center and volunteers from the UT Arboretum Society will lead you on a hike on one of our trails. We aim for this hike to be suitable for everyone but this can vary upon your fitness level. Our trails are rocky with some exposed roots.

Please wear closed toed comfortable walking shoes and remember a water bottle. No pets please – we cannot have pets on site due to research projects. This is a free event. There is no need to register. Portable restrooms are available in the parking lot.

Mark your calendars!

The UT Arboretum Society Spring Plant Sale returns on Friday, April 12 for members only shopping and open to the public on Saturday, April 13.

Stay tuned for more information!
